Episode 1: Why Live On Purpose

I wanted to start off and talk about why I chose "live on purpose" as my mantra, slogan and podcast title. I get a lot of questions about it and I thought it would be a really good idea to kind of debunk and explain why I chose the name that I did for my podcast.

I have a story for you guys that I think will help explain it really well.

Earlier last February, I wanted to go to hot yoga and the class that I wanted to attend was at 6:30 AM on Friday morning. It's a wonderful, silent class. It's so warm in the room and the instructor doesn't really speak throughout, she just practices and you follow suit. It's such an enjoyable hour and it's only offered once a week. Thursday night I set my alarm so that I could go to hot yoga the next morning at 6:30 AM. I woke up, my alarm goes off at 5:45 and honestly... the last thing I wanted to do was get out of my warm bed.

I went to bed a little later that night.

I woke up and I could hear rain outside.

I knew it was cold, it's Saskatchewan and it's like a free for all when it comes to our weather.

I was pretty sure it was snowing.

I went through all the reasons that I deserved to stay in bed to sleep in blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I struggled internally for 15 minutes, until the moment really happened.

You know when it's game time and it's like you gotta shit or get off the pot.

Yeah, that. I knew that if I didn't get up right then and go, I would miss the silent hot yoga class that's only offered once a week. And I knew that I would kick myself for not booting my butt out of bed and just doing the thing. It was a do or don't moment for sure. I knew I would regret not going and I went through every excuse in the book as to why I deserve to stay in bed.

But I also knew that I'd be sad if I didn't go.

So, finally, I put both feet on the floor. I went and splashed water on my face. I threw my hair in an ugly top knot and headed out the door. I didn't even give myself time to second guess my decision. It was cold out, just like I thought it was going to be and raining, potentially snowing. Not really sure at this point. But I went. And made it on time.

And you know what? That hot yoga class was one of the best classes I've ever been to and I was trying to think afterwards, "why was it so enjoyable?" I mean, it's not like the instructor did anything different. It was the same flow, but I honestly think that it was such a good class because I was challenged to get there in the first place and I was proud of myself for having gone.

Then I realized this is what it means.

This is what living on purpose means.

Every single day we're given choices. These moments in time, and we get to choose to do something different or remain in the exact same patterns.

Living on purpose means living intentionally.

It means making choices every day that serve you.

It means you're no longer going through the motions.

You're awake, you're inspired, you're alive.

Your intentional living muscles need to be worked daily so that you can get yourself out of whatever rut you're in and get yourself into the life that you wish you were living.

It's totally up to you. My intentional motion that Friday morning was getting up early, heading out into the cold and doing an awesome hot yoga class. It doesn't have to be this bold action. It could be choosing to drink a little more water in the day, choosing not to participate in negative conversation, choosing to quit your job and try something else, etc.

Whatever your thing is, what are you going to do to live on purpose and improve your life?

Everything you need is already inside of you! What a liberating concept!

Through the conversations that we have on this podcast, we're going to work together to bring that out. Each week I'm going to bring you a thought or a tip that's going to help you expand your ideas about what it means to live on purpose. My hope for you is that you'll find value in it and you'll be able to have key takeaways that you can then apply to your life.

I am all about mindfulness and holistic living over here. I understand that we're busy, but we also want to live our best lives. We're going to talk about money, relationships, social media, self care, stress, food, autoimmune disease, and everything in between. This is going to be the one stop shop for conversations about real life living intentionally.

If you think you could get down with this kind of a conversation and you want to be a part of it, tune in weekly and be sure to share this podcast with anybody that you think would love it.

My goal this year is to empower as many people as is humanly possible and this free educational platform is exactly how I'm going to do just that. If you're excited about learning how to live on purpose, having conversations that talk about the real stuff and giving you actual tangible takeaways that you can apply to your life, then I hope you'll join me once a week on the live on purpose podcast.

And maybe, just maybe, we will all find ourselves living a little more intentionally each day moving forwards.
